SPRING MOUNTAIN VINEYARD RECEIVES ‘BEST OF NAPA VALLEY TOURISM’ AWARD
Spring Mountain Vineyard announced today that it has received the Best of Napa Valley Tourism Award for 2005-2006 from the Global Network of Great Wine Capitals.
Visitors to Spring Mountain Vineyard experience its unique sense of place and history through an informative walking tour of the estate that weaves local history with modern winemaking. The tour includes the winery and its extensive wine caves, an antique horse barn, vineyards, exotic gardens and ultimately Miravalle, the elegant 1885 Victorian where guests are guided through a sensory evaluation of the estate’s handcrafted mountain wines.
In 1992, Jacob E. Safra began assembling four separate, but contiguous vineyards in the Spring Mountain District of Napa Valley. In 2003, after over a decade of defining and replanting the vineyards and gardens and restoring the estate’s many 19th century structures, Spring Mountain Vineyard opened its gates to the enthusiastic approval of wine aficionados and casual visitors to the Napa Valley alike.
“The decision to open the vineyard two years ago was the culmination of many years of passion and effort,” said owner Jacob E. Safra. “We are quite pleased to receive this international recognition for the individual brand of hospitality we extend to every guest of Spring Mountain Vineyard,”
The Global Network of Great Wine Capitals, who bestowed the award to Spring Mountain on November 16, 2005, embraces Melbourne, Bordeaux, San Francisco - Napa Valley, Porto, Cape Town, Bilbao-Rioja, Florence and Mendoza, and works to encourage international winery tourism, as well as economic, academic and cultural exchanges between these famous capitals of wine.
Tours are available daily at 10 am and 2 pm by advance reservation. A fee of $25 per person is applicable to wine purchases made during the visit. A tour and tasting may be scheduled by visiting the website: www.springmountainvineyard.com or by calling the winery at (707) 967-4188 or 1-877-769-4637 (877-SMWINES). Spring Mountain Vineyard is an 845 acre estate in the Spring Mountain District of Napa Valley. Its diverse 225 acres of vines extend from 400 feet to 1600 feet above sea level and represent many microclimates. Its steep hillside vineyards were first planted in the late 19th century by Napa Valley’s first pioneering vintners. Building on a 19th century legacy with a vision for the 21st century, Spring Mountain Vineyard has been planted predominantly to Bordeaux grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A substantial portion of the vineyard is planted meter by meter using an ancient vine training method called Vertical Gobelet. The estate produces wines with the power, elegance and longevity that define Spring Mountain terroir. Its embodiment is Elivette.
